Teaching In Yei, South Sudan
Donation protected
QUICK STATS:
South Sudan is currently listed as the most illiterate nation in the world, with only 27 percent of adults able to read. A recent UNICEF report said that 70 percent of children from the ages of six to 17 never step into a classroom, and only one out of 10 children who start primary school will finish.
WHAT I WILL BE DOING:
Starting out, I will be working for three months with an organization called Harvesters Reaching The Nations www.hrtn.org in Yei, South Sudan, teaching students and coaching Sudanese teachers at a school that is reaching around 600 kids from the local community with a primary education.
WHAT I BELIEVE:
I believe that education of the mind and heart is the key to a child’s development as a whole and healthy adult. As an educator, I am able to hold a mirror up so a child is shown their value, and when they recognize this innate truth of deep worth, even the smallest spark will light a fire inside their heart, setting ablaze an unquenchable path of hope and desire for life.
UBUNTU:
Ubuntu is a word from the Xhosa culture of South Africa, meaning, "I am because we are." I hold this truth to be self-evident, and I hope that through this, we can journey together. If you give, PLEASE! leave your name so that I can thank you and keep you up to speed with what's happening in the lives of the children because of your partnership.
WHERE I'LL BE:
