Inuuqatigiitsiarniq, Tunnganarniq, Pijitsirniq, Piliriqatigiinniq/Ikajuqtigiinniq. These are just a few of our values, ways of knowing and doing, that have supported Inuit survival and ability to thrive through history.
These are the guiding principles within this fundraising initiative.
The intent? Supporting Inuit Me Too Survivors of domestic and sexual violence by providing a caring, emotionally and financially safe environment to support their ability to share their story and seek justice.
The justice system proves to be emotionally, financially, and often a publicly harmful process. The onus is on the victim throughout the process.
This fundraising initiative aims to provide financial support to the victims moving through the legal process against their abuser. This does not just include legal fees, it can include a multitude of resources we may not realize accompany the process, e.g. counselling fees, travel fees for the victim and their support system, food and accommodations, and much more.
Reducing the burden of financial fears when pushing for justice is suicide prevention. It not only reaffirms a community standing behind you, it provides a source of safety during a period of uncertainty.
BACKGROUND: Inuit Me Too
Across Inuit Nunangat, Inuit women and gender-diverse people are speaking up, quietly, bravely, and together… to say that the silence must end.
For too long, harm has gone unchecked. People who have caused violence or harassment have been protected by positions of power, while survivors have been left without the safety or support they deserve.

The #InuitMeToo movement was born from that truth. Love for our people, our families, and our future generations.
Building safer systems for our people:
If funds remain after supporting survivors, they will be used to retain a lawyer to develop and recommend policy changes for Inuit organizations.
These policy recommendations will focus on:
Ensuring people with histories of violence or harassment do not hold leadership positions
Creating independent, survivor-centred reporting processes
Protecting whistleblowers and survivors from retaliation
Embedding safety and accountability into Inuit governance structures
This work is not about blame, it’s about responsibility. It’s about making our institutions reflect the care, respect, and integrity that define us as Inuit.
Our vision:
We are doing this because we believe in a future where Inuit women and gender-diverse people feel safe, in their workplaces, in their communities, and in their lives.
#InuitMeToo is not just about naming harm — it’s about creating safety, building trust, and strengthening our communities from the inside out.
Every contribution helps someone find their footing again. Every act of solidarity helps us move toward healing. Together, we are laying the groundwork for change: steady, rooted, and real.
Transparency and accountability
A small working group connected to the #InuitMeToo movement will oversee the distribution of funds. Survivors will always be prioritized, and any remaining funds will go toward policy and governance reform.
Regular updates will be shared to maintain transparency and community trust.
A message from our hearts
To every survivor: you are not alone. You are seen, believed, and valued.
To everyone standing beside us: thank you for choosing care over silence, and courage over comfort.
Together, we can build something safer, stronger, and deeply rooted in who we are as Inuit.
The fundraiser will end on the last day of the Women in Leadership Conference held by Amautiit Nunavut Inuit Women’s Association in Iqaluit on November 21, 2025.
