On May 1st, 2018 at approximately 6:30AM Bob tripped, fell and hit his head/face. Due to the severity of the fall he was medevaced to UCLA Trauma Center from Catalina Island.
Once he arrived at the hospital he was placed in the ICU and the doctors began their first round of tests. The first CT scan revealed a small bruise on the brain, a minor stroke was diagnosed potentially the cause of the fall.
On May 2nd, further scans revealed that Bob sufferred Central Cord Syndrome and needs a Laminectomy Surgery and Posterior Cervical Fusion of his C3-C6 vertebrae.
Bob has lost range of motion in his right arm and dexterity in his fingers from the Central Cord Syndrome. The doctors say once they perform the surgery he should have a full recovery in his arm.
The surgery date will be Monday, May 7th and will take about 3 hours. During the surgery a rod and screws will be placed in his neck.
Unfortunately, Bob doesn’t have health insurance since he’s been living in Costa Rica for the past 8 years. His three sons are stepping up to help pay for surgery. They’re also reaching out to friends and family to help raise money for their father.
The major costs associated with his treatment are listed below.
1). Laminectomy Surgery
2). Posterior Cervical Fusion
3). 3 CAT scans and 2 MRI scans
4). 10 days in the hospital (5 Days in ICU)
5). Medevac from Catalina Island to UCLA Trauma Center
6). Medication
7). Physical rehabilitation
