My name is Se Young Au, and I am raising funds for LA-based friends, Tre and Chloe, who have recently experienced a break-in, leading to both financial and emotional strain. They are kind and generous folks, often going out of their way to host and feed people as a way to build community.

Tre is a woodworker who moved to the city with his live-in partner, Chloe, in 2023. The secure basement garage in the apartment that they moved to in Koreatown was broken into on the night of June 4th, at 1:40 am. Tre’s toolbags, which had tools he needs every day at his job and weekend work, plus some of which he had collected over the past 10 years as a carpenter, were stolen.

Thanks to his co-workers, he will be sharing their tools until he is able to purchase all his own, which are about $2500 in total. All of the tools that were stolen are necessary for his work, and this is the second time his car has been broken into in the past six months, which has dramatically affected his income.

Tre’s partner Chloe has been doing odd jobs and actively seeking full-time employment since January. The apartment building was broken into once again last night, at 2:30 am on June 5th. Tre and Chloe are considering moving as well due to feeling unsafe in their current apartment building.
