Hi Everyone—humans, neighbors, vegetable enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever had the luck to come across Ray and Jenny Sprague and their dear children Hobbes and Billie,
I’m here because Ray and Jenny’s house caught fire and is now officially uninhabitable. And when I say uninhabitable, I mean even the raccoons said, “Nah, we’re good,” and walked away.
If Ray and Jenny had their way, they’d rebuild the whole thing with duct tape, sheer will power and love. And they’d never, EVER ask for help.
Who Are Ray & Jenny?
Ray and Jenny own and operate Edgewater Farm in Plainfield, NH. Edgewater is a generational family farm that produces some of the finest produce and plants anywhere. In 2013, they purchased the historic Putnam Homestead in Cornish, NH, a property they have lovingly cared for ever since.
If you don’t know them, imagine two people who:
- Put the love and happiness of their children above anything else in the world. They have miraculously carried the weight of this fire while simultaneously keeping the spirits of their children bright and cheery.
- Give away so much of their incredible food to local organizations, like Willing Hands, who provide fresh food so everyone can access it.
- Conserve their farmland with the Upper Valley Land Trust so that it stays a farm for generations to come.
- Know how to throw the meanest of farm style dance parties.
- Won’t accept money, even if you sneak it into their pockets.
- They give to everyone… and now they need the rest of us to return the favor whether they ask for it or not.
Many people have asked what we can do to help Ray and Jenny. One thing is certain-they will need more than they realize in this moment. They will need to rebuild and restock their entire home with furniture, clothing, and everything else in between. It seems clear to me that donations will be the best thing to get them back on their feet as soon as possible. Their produce has filled countless kitchens, and their smiles have filled countless hearts.
