My name is Micheal Singleton, and I am reaching out for support as I prepare for a life-changing kidney transplant. For years, I have battled health challenges brought on by obesity and the lack of adequate health insurance, which led to hypertension and diabetes. In 2021, my health took a severe turn when I was hospitalized for 43 days due to an infection in my left foot. This infection resulted in a five-toe amputation and, ultimately, kidney failure. During that time, I was placed in a medically induced coma, and when I awoke, I had to relearn basic skills, including walking and recognizing my loved ones. Since then, I have been on dialysis, but my kidneys have not recovered.

The journey to a kidney transplant is complex and demanding. I am seeking help to cover the costs of travel for treatment evaluations, food and hotel accommodations for my caregiver, and post-surgery care and therapy. These expenses are mandatory for my recovery and are not fully covered by insurance. My sister has been my primary support throughout this process, and her presence is vital as I navigate the challenges ahead. The transplant evaluations and preparations are scheduled to begin in September 2025, making timely support crucial.

As a former educator, my greatest hope after recovery is to return to the classroom and continue making a difference in the lives of children who share similar backgrounds to my own.
