On Thursday, December 18th, during a performance in Shirley, MA, Zoso’s lead singer Matt Jernigan suffered a sudden brain bleed and collapsed on stage. Thanks to the quick response of two EMTs who were in the audience, Matt received immediate medical care. During the ambulance transport, his condition worsened, and he was life-flighted to a top-tier hospital. This rapid and decisive action ultimately saved his life.

Matt is now awake and stable in the ICU. We are incredibly grateful to share that he is already showing encouraging signs of improvement, which gives us tremendous hope. While this progress means a great deal, doctors have made it clear that intensive physical rehabilitation will be a necessary part of his recovery before he can return to the stage and do what he loves most.

For more than 30 years, Zoso has been Matt’s life and his business. He has dedicated himself completely to the music, the band, and the fans, often putting everything else second. The medical care, rehabilitation, and recovery ahead come with significant and still-unknown costs.

As Matt’s bandmates and friends, we are fully committed to keeping his business running while he focuses on what matters most right now - his health and recovery. Zoso will continue honoring its commitments by bringing in a high-caliber singer to cover upcoming shows until Matt is able to rejoin us on stage.

It is incredibly humbling to ask for financial assistance which is something Matt would never do himself. All funds raised through this GoFundMe will be managed by Adam Sandling, Matt’s close friend and bandmate of over 31 years. Donations will be used to assist with Matt’s living, medical-related, and essential business expenses during his rehabilitation, helping to ease the financial burden while he focuses on recovery.

At Matt’s request, Zoso will continue touring with guest singers until he is able to return to the stage. Matt is the sole owner of Zoso, and keeping the band running during his recovery is vitally important, as it directly affects both his income and the livelihoods of his bandmates. He will be involved in all decision making in how the funds will be spent.
