My grandma, Maria Victoria lovingly known as “Mama Toya” has spent her entire life in the small city of San Miguel, El Salvador. She has always had a big, soft heart and a kind spirit, touching the lives of everyone around her with her generosity.

Recently, Mama Toya has been struggling with severe lung and pneumonia issues that required hospitalization. She was diagnosed with diffuse interstitial lung disease, a condition with an average life expectancy of 3 to 5 years. My grandpa lost his vision in one eye due to glaucoma, with both of my grandparents struggling to work and facing growing medical expenses, they are in need of support. We are doing everything we can to help.

Mama Toya has spent her entire life in El Salvador. All she has ever known is her home, her community, and the familiar rhythms of life in San Miguel. While we have always offered to begin the process for a visa so she could be closer to family elsewhere, it’s not something she desires. Her heart belongs there, surrounded by the people and the place she loves so deeply.

Mi abuela, Maria Victoria cariñosamente conocida como “Mama Toya” ha pasado toda su vida en la pequeña ciudad de San Miguel, El Salvador. Siempre ha tenido un corazón grande y tierno y un espíritu bondadoso, tocando la vida de todos a su alrededor con su generosidad.

Recientemente, Mama Toya ha estado luchando con problemas graves de pulmones y neumonía que requirieron hospitalización. Fue diagnosticada con enfermedad pulmonar intersticial difusa, una condición con una esperanza de vida promedio de 3 a 5 años. A sus 72 años, con ambos abuelos teniendo dificultades para trabajar y enfrentando crecientes gastos médicos, necesitan apoyo. Estamos haciendo todo lo posible para ayudarlos.

Mama Toya ha pasado toda su vida en El Salvador. Todo lo que ha conocido es su hogar, su comunidad y los ritmos familiares de la vida en San Miguel. Aunque siempre le hemos ofrecido iniciar el proceso de visa para que pudiera estar más cerca de la familia en otro lugar, no es algo que ella desee. Su corazón pertenece allí, rodeada de las personas y el lugar que ama profundamente.
