“Education is a necessity and a right, not a privilege ”
In my hometown of Bassar, northern Togo, too many people grow up without access to balanced education. The results are heartbreaking:
- Children dropping out of school early, especially girls.
- Farmers resorting to harmful practices like mixing lead batteries with seed stocks, not knowing the long-term dangers.
- Families trapped in poverty, unable to fund their children’s education.
- Cycles of ignorance and hardship leading to crime, addiction, early pregnancies, and poor agricultural practices.
We believe education is not just the cure but the vaccine against these problems. That’s why we launched Nourl Bayan Wal Houdah—The Lighthouse of Eloquence and Guidance.
Our Mission
The Lighthouse is more than a school—it’s a community hub for transformation.
- Youth Education: Literacy, science, math, and religious education that goes beyond memorization to spark curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence.
- Adult Workshops: Practical training in farming, trades, and business skills to improve livelihoods and break cycles of poverty.
- Faith and Guidance: Clear and meaningful religious education that helps people understand not just how to worship, but why.
We use interactive methods—imagery, sound, repetition, hands-on learning, and discussion—so learning truly stays with our students.
What We’ve Achieved So Far
Thanks to generous partners, including the Davis Projects for Peace grant, local donors, and community volunteers, we have:
- ✅ A new building with classrooms and restrooms.
- ✅ Desks, blackboards, and basic infrastructure in place.
- ✅ Teachers eager and prepared to guide students.
- ✅ Parents ready to entrust us with their children.
- ✅ Students waiting to begin their journey of knowledge.
This is a huge milestone—but it’s only the beginning.
