:: WE’RE ADOPTING! ::
We are John and Abby, and we are so excited and grateful that you are taking the time to read our story. Thank you for being a part of our journey to grow our family through adoption!
After experiencing a miscarriage in 2018, we tried for several years to get pregnant on our own with no luck. Eventually, we were referred to a fertility specialist and got the heartbreaking news that Abby was diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR). It was recommended to us that we should begin fertility treatments immediately. That turned into two failed IVF cycles and upwards of $20,000 spent out of pocket. After being told by our doctor that it would be unlikely for us to get pregnant through IVF, we decided that adoption was how we wanted to start our family!
Over the past year and a half, we have done endless research on adoption agencies, saved money, and worked on getting all of our home study documents together and submitted to be officially able to adopt! We are excited to announce that we have signed on with an amazing agency, Heart of Adoptions, based out of Florida and Tennessee. This means that we could be chosen by a birth mother at any time!
With that said, the truth is, the adoption process is complex and involves significant costs. The cost of domestic infant adoption in the U.S. currently ranges from $40,000-$80,000 (this covers birth parent care, medical expenses, legal fees, agency fees, etc.), and we are expecting to pay between $55,000 - $64,000 for our adoption. In addition to the cost of the adoption, we will be traveling to either Florida or Tennessee once our baby is born, and travel expenses will add up, including flights, hotel, and transportation. Additionally, we are unsure of how long we will need to stay, as there are many factors including waiting for approval to fly home with our baby, and if our baby will need an extended hospital stay. Here is a breakdown of the known expenses we are facing:
Application, Agency Fees, Legal Fees - $47,000 - $50,000
Home Study - $3,000
Birth Mother Expenses - $8,500 - $10,000
Travel expenses: $3,000 - $5,000
We have so much love to give and are deeply committed to nurturing and supporting a child. Our hearts are filled with joy as we spend time investing in the lives of our nieces and nephews and the children of our friends. We eagerly look forward to the day we can share this love with our own child.
It was a very difficult decision for us to ask for help, but we believe we would not be able to start a family without the help of our friends, family, and community. If you are willing and able, we appreciate any donation to help us financially. Money donated will help cover the cost of birth mother expenses, travel expenses, and agency and legal fees owed at the time our baby is placed with us. Sharing our story is another way you can help us along this journey!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, and for helping us in any way you can!
