**Help a Passionate Speech-Language Pathology Student Reach Graduation **
Hello! My name is Ivie Frazier, and I’m currently a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of those with communication challenges. I’m also a proud graduate student at South Carolina State University, pursuing my Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Audiology. This journey has been incredibly rewarding, but I’m facing financial challenges that I’m unable to overcome on my own.
Despite living in South Carolina since May 2023, I’m still being charged out-of-state tuition, amounting to $24,000 each academic year (not including summer semesters) for a two-year program. This, combined with various required expenses like subscriptions, books, and test registrations, has placed a significant financial burden on me. Unfortunately, my financial aid hasn’t been able to cover all of my tuition since beginning the program, leaving me to pay between $1,200 - $2,200 out of pocket each term.
My program’s demanding schedule for this final year includes school and medical externships from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and classes from 5:30 PM to 8:20 PM (M - TH) —makes it impossible to work full-time. I see my personal clients on weekends (F - Sat), but with cancellations and a small caseload, I’m only able to make about $200 a week despite my hourly rate. I’ve also tried supplementing my income with DoorDash, but sometimes the cost of gas outweighs what I earn.
With rent at $1,500, bills amounting to $300 a month, and two credit card payments totaling $400 to $500 each, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. My parents, who are nearing retirement and also supporting my sister through her undergraduate studies, are unable to provide the financial help I need.
I’m reaching out to you, my community, because I truly love what I do and believe in the power of speech-language pathology to change lives. This phase of my career is an investment in the future, and I’m determined to succeed despite these financial obstacles. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping me complete my education and continue serving those who need my help the most.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering supporting me on this journey. Your generosity means the world to me and will make a lasting impact on my future and the futures of those I will serve.
