Support Hilario's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
On July 6, Hilario Tavarez was struck by a vehicle while visiting family in the Dominican Republic. He suffered severe injuries to his chest, abdomen, pelvis, hip, and left leg. Although emergency surgery stopped internal bleeding, delays in treatment caused irreversible damage to his leg.
Hilario was medevac’d to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he is now hospitalized. He has already undergone one surgery and will need several more. Doctors have confirmed that a left leg amputation is necessary in the coming days.
Hilario is 58 years old and works as a maintenance technician for Aeon, a nonprofit that provides affordable housing to families in need. He loves dancing, horseback riding, and spending time with his family. He is deeply loved and respected, and the outpouring of support from across the world shows just how many lives he has touched.
We’re raising funds to help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, mobility equipment, and other essentials he will need to rebuild his life after surgery.
Richard Tavarez, Hilario’s son, has also incurred a large amount of debt due to the accident. He needed to fly down to be with Hilario. After finding out that Hilario had delayed care at the first hospital, he was transferred to another hospital in the DR. After this, the decision was made to have him transferred to the States for his care.
All of this has totaled $37,000. At this time it is unknown if anything will be covered by insurance since this was in the DR.
Richard will eventually fly down to Florida when his father is stable to get him back to Minnesota and into a TCU, which will incur more costs on top of what they have already spent.
Hilario, Richard, Danaca, and family need our help due to unforeseen costs and this tragic accident.
Every donation makes a difference, no matter the size.
Please share, support, and help Hilario take the next step toward recovery.
