Support for my sister's ALS Care and Comfort

Donation protected
My name is Alexandra and I am trying to raise money for my sister Allison who has ALS. She has bulbar onset which means the disease is progressing really fast. Unfortunately I don’t have the resources to give her all the care she needs. We don't have family or a home to accommodate her. So I am hoping to raise money to help with quality of life care like nurse help and having a ramp installed at her building. Below I will tell you more about our story.

She was diagnosed in late 2022 with slurred speech but by fall 2023, she couldn't communicate at all and now uses text to talk on her phone. She has lost 80lbs and is very weak and having trouble walking. Our father passed away from ALS thirty years ago; he was only 48. My sister is 56. Our sweet mom passed away unexpectedly in 2022 and Allison developed symptoms weeks after my mom died. The last two years have been beyond horrible and I worry every single day.

What I worry about more then anything is how I am going to take care of my sister. I live in an apartment on the 2nd floor so she can't move in with me. She lives in a tiny (less then 400 sqft) condo. I want her to be able to stay in her home, but she is going to need 24 hour care and it's not as easy as finding a place for her to go because many facilities will not take ALS patients. Even a year in an assisted living community costs roughly $100K. It's sobering to realize how many people will not be able to receive good care as they age and or become sick.

I am such a private person and I feel so strange asking people for donations but my sister no longer has an income and is living on SSI and I give her half of my salary a month to help. My sister has been my best friend all my life and I can't bare the thought of not being able to care for her.

If you are able to make a donation, I would be so grateful. And if you could share this GFM too, that would be so awesome because I'm not on any social channels for my own emotional health, lol.

If you can't afford to donate, that is okay! Just send me some good vibrations to keep me strong for my sister.
