Just 3 hours South of Vancouver B.C. Is one of the largest I.C.E. detention centers in the United States. The “North West Ice Processing Center” holds up to 1500 migrants, the majority of which are non-violent, peaceful people and ancestrally Indigenous to Turtle Island aka the Americas.

This detention center has been at the center of many controversies over the years including poor living conditions, being under fed or served rotten food, lack of consistent health care even for serious health concerns, suspicious deaths, and other major issues. Hunger strikes, rallies, protests, lawsuits and advocacy at and around the center are not new or uncommon.

The mass targeting & deportation efforts from Donald Trump’s administration parallels Nazi Germany in many ways from targeting, executions, mass incarceration and dehumanization propaganda of specific groups of innocent people(including American Citizens) as well as concentration camp style detention facilities such as this North West Center and the infamous and egregious “Alligator Alcatraz”.

So what can we do? We must remember that it is “we the people” who have the true power. Our voices, our resources, our unity, our connection with one another is our strength!

“We never crossed the borders the borders crossed us!” There are already numerous groups in the Tacoma area, as well as across Washington State, who are doing the work and fighting for our people! Groups like “La Resistencia” or the AIDNW aka “Advocates for Immigrants in Detention North West” or NWIRP aka “North West Immigrant Rights Project” just to name a few.

There are many of us here on Coast Salish territories who already know the affects of colonial violence all too well. We are all in the same war against genocide and oppression for Quinientos años(500 years) and history has shown us repeatedly that if you are silent when they come for your neighbour then the next one they will come for is you! We won’t be silent though nor complacent. Our gente(people) are collectively rising across the Americas and the world!

In the spirit of community, resistance, love, and solidarity. Our community are raising funds to contribute to these groups just South of us who are putting in the work to help some of our most vulnerable people!
