Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts on behalf of our dear colleague and friend, Karen Viveros, a long-time team member at La Casa de Amistad. Karen’s son, Carlos, was recently involved in a devastating accident that has left their family in the midst of an unimaginable crisis.

Carlos sustained serious injuries and was intubated and sedated for over a week as doctors fought to stabilize his condition. While his medical team continues to provide the best care possible, the road ahead is long and uncertain. Carlos is beginning the slow process of recovery, but the emotional, physical, and financial toll on Karen and her family is overwhelming.

As a mother, Karen has remained by Carlos' side every moment—balancing her worry with strength and hope. Many of us know Karen as a faithful, generous, compassionate soul who gives so much of herself to serve others in our community. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.
