Support Financial Stability for Phoenix

Hello everyone! I'm Phoenix Wheeler (they/them). I'm a grateful transgender single parent in need of financial assistance to get back on my feet. I left my job at a state-wide environmental nonprofit back in August for personal reasons and headed back to political communications consulting.

My goal was to increase representation in local and state government from historically marginalized communities and focus on facilitating workshops to help develop sustainable movements that push back against the exploitation so often experienced in political advocacy. This was personal to me, having been exploited through wage theft and more during my early career, and I wanted to make a difference given the current political climate. I have an advanced degree and twenty years of experience in New England politics, elections, government, and advocacy and had been planning this dream switch for quite some time. Unfortunately, it appears to have been exactly the wrong time to do so.

While at first, I was able to gain clients quickly via my networks for story telling, testimony delivery, and social media workshops, as well as individual organizations for ongoing communications consulting, growing my client base was more difficult than I anticipated. I attempted to supplement income via paid spoken word performances, but quickly fell behind financially.

Beyond the sudden drop-off of grant funding for nonprofits and the rise in consumer prices for all of us, my mental health suffered due to various national political factors. I had been managing well prior to the past several months and am confident I am back on track with the help of an expert care team and various community-based family and friends, but this severely limited my capacity for steady clients and I have not been able to financially recover.

I finally admit I need help. While I do have clients at this time, I am trying to dig myself out financially. The amount I'm requesting would get me out of this financial situation and set me up for greater success long-term.

During my divorce in 2023, I needed to drain nearly all of my financial resources. I had built up my financially stability after that with success. I'm confident I can do so again with your help now.

I appreciate those who have helped by sending me job postings, apply for various grants and benefits, and support me by setting up this go fund me. It is noticed and very appreciated.

This ask is not easy for me. While I do not believe I can pay anyone back, I do plan on paying it forward when the time comes through volunteering and community care. But for now, this financial stability is my biggest priority for me.

I so appreciate your consideration. I am grateful for any assistance you can provide. Even if you are unable to donate, sharing on your social media channels, via text, email, or more are each and all appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
