Embassy Suites hotel workers are on strike to win year around healthcare, ICE protection and fair raises. Workers walked out right before the USA and Australia FIFA match played at the Seattle Field right across their hotel.
Many workers in this hotel do not get enough hours on off peak seasons, which affects their ability to maintain their health insurance. The hotel has also rejected workers demand to not be disciplined for not reporting to work when there is ICE present at the hotel.
Workers chose to walkout during the World Cup precisely because of increased ICE presence for the matches, and because less than a dollar annual raises that were offered are not acceptable. But as the strike goes on its third week, the financial strain on hotel workers couldn't be more critical.
Your donation will help workers to pay for basic necessities, such as rent, or a car payment, so that they can stay in this fight until they win their demands. Some workers are in more precarious situations than others, including many single mothers, who only rely on their one income, while balancing raising their children.
Seattle DSA members have shown their support for the Embassy Suites workers picket line to keep the energy and momentum, please also donate to make sure that workers will see their victory.
These workers are members of UNITE HERE local 8. This fund is managed by the members of Seattle DSA, independent from the chapter and the local 8. The fund will be dispersed to striking Embassy Suites workers who have already received their striking benefits, and now needs more to cover their remaining financial needs. Any excess funds will be saved to support future strikes in the Seattle area.
