My name is Kai Campbell. My husband Nas and I have started this GoFundMe for my mom, Elva (Marie) Brown, whose home was severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa. A caring and giving person, Elva is always the first to help someone in need. She has given so much support to family and friends, even if it was her last.
It has always been Elva’s dream to return home to Jamaica after dedicating years to helping the elderly as a Nurse’s Assistant and Home Health Aide in New Jersey. Having been widowed for a number of years, she worked tirelessly to build something special for her grandchildren. Finally accomplishing her goal, she retired and moved back to Jamaica in 2024. On October 29th, 2025, her home was devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
When Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica, the eye of the storm passed right over western Jamaica. As with many families, we could not reach her for over a week. When she was able to contact us, she sounded so defeated. She was alive, thank God, but what she had built was now in ruins. The roof was ripped off, windows smashed, doors gone, and she had lost everything inside.
I am opening this GoFundMe to assist with rebuilding and restoring what she has spent her life working on. Your donation will help with supplies, material, and labor. I’m hopeful with your help it can be restored. Thank you so much in advance for your support. #jamaicastrong
