Support Danny Turner's Fight Against Kidney Cancer

Please give me one moment to introduce you to 58-year old, Danny Turner.

This devoted husband of 37 years, father of 3, and grandfather of 8 was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer on 02/26/25. As a dedicated utility inspector at TDOT, he knew something wasn’t right when he was having worsening back pain and his legs started to randomly “give out” during his normal work day months prior to the diagnosis. After significant work-up and imaging in the ER, Danny was found to have what seemed to be a tumor pressing on his spine causing the weakness in his legs. To make matters worse, doctors found a cantaloupe-sized tumor on his left kidney and multiple cancerous lesions in his lungs.

The main concern was that Danny would be paralyzed from the waist down if the tumor grew the slightest bit. He and his family had no time to think. He was urgently taken to Vanderbilt University for removal of the spine tumor. Although the surgery on 03/05/25 was a success, Danny has a very long road ahead.

He and his wonderful family live in Brownsville, TN; however, his cancer treatments will now be in Nashville, TN. The 2.5-hour commute is one that his loved ones are willing to brave repeatedly to support him through this tumultuous time. Danny will not be returning to work anytime soon. His lovely wife, Vonda, has graciously become his primary caretaker and has also forfeit her full-time job. This family will need our help with travel expenses, lodging in Nashville, and any medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Danny’s family describes him as selfless, thoughtful, humble, and a true man of God. He has been known to do anything for his Brownsville community when he was perfectly healthy.
