Support for Cade’s Healing Journey
On Tuesday, October 21st, our world changed in an instant. What began as what we thought would be a simple follow-up turned into something we could never have imagined. After multiple rounds of antibiotics for a double ear infection, Cade’s balance issues continued, so our local pediatrician referred us to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital for scans to better understand what might be going on.
We expected answers about ear issues — but instead, the scans revealed a brain tumor that was blocking spinal fluid and placing extreme pressure on his brain. Cade was immediately admitted, and the medical team at Brenner’s went right to work. The first urgent step was to insert a brain EVD to relieve the dangerous pressure. Just a few days later, on October 27th, he underwent major brain surgery to remove the tumor.
Since then, Cade has been courageously working through recovery. He has remained on the EDV while his care team monitors his progress, and decisions are being made about whether he will need a permanent shunt to help regulate the pressure.
Pathology confirmed that Cade’s tumor is a Grade 3 Ependymoma, a cancerous tumor that will require additional treatment. Beginning December 8th through January 26th, Cade will undergo proton radiation therapy at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Because of his age, he will need to be sedated for each session, which will take place daily over several weeks.
While radiation can be hard on the body, we’ve been reassured that children often tolerate it better than adults. Still, we know this journey will come with moments of sickness, fatigue, and the need for rest. Our family is committed to being by Cade’s side every step of the way — through treatment, recovery, and beyond.
To make this possible, we plan to stay in or near Charlotte during his radiation treatments, so Cade can rest comfortably and avoid the strain of constant travel. Many of you have asked how you can help — and your love, messages, and prayers have already meant so much.
We’ve created this GoFundMe to help ease the financial strain of travel, lodging, and related expenses during this time. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ensure that Cade has the care, comfort, and support he needs as he heals.
For those who may not feel comfortable donating through GoFundMe or would like to contribute directly, we have also set up a special bank account for Cade at State Employees Credit Union (SECU).
Deposits can be made directly to account #64751224, or you may contact Devin Lyall for additional information or support.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for lifting our family up during this difficult journey. Your generosity, kindness, and prayers mean more than words can express.
