It all happened so fast...
Earlier this year, Carol was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She quickly began chemotherapy, facing a few hurdles along the way, including low potassium & sodium levels. Not long after, she was hospitalized with shortness of breath and diagnosed with pneumonia. Due to the severity of her symptoms, she was transferred to a facility that could provide more intensive care and was airlifted to St. Mary's ICU in Duluth.
Carol fought with everything she had, and there were moments of hope and victory. But in the end, the toll of chemotherapy left her immune system too weak to recover. Multiple organ failures made healing impossible.
On Tuesday afternoon, March 18th, she was removed from life support. She held on peacefully through the night and, at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19th, checked into Heaven.
To honor Carol’s life, we invite you to join us for a good old-fashioned Hootenanny on Saturday, May 17th—just one day before what would have been Bruce and Carol’s 34th wedding anniversary. We will gather at The Landing in Aitkin, MN, 2:00pm - 5:00pm, to celebrate Poopsy and the bright, beautiful life she shared with us all. Bring your favorite memories and stories as we remember and cherish her together.
As you can imagine, paying for that helicopter ride, time in the ICU, all the extraordinary care that has been given by the doctors and nurses, transportation, and hotel stays, cremation & hosting the celebrating of life Carol deserves, have also been something top of mind.
We're using this GoFundMe to help raise money for Bruce and family to help ease that stress and take that financial weight off their minds.
