My name is Taylor, and I am writing this for my wife, Brittney, and our family. Two months ago, a tree fell on Brittney at a picnic, and in an instant, our lives changed completely. Since then, Brittney has been living with a spinal injury that doctors still have not been able to fully figure out. She faces severe, debilitating pain all day and all night. It is excruciating, and it has become so intense that Brittney could end up back in the ER again at any time. She cannot sit in a chair or lie down at all. She cannot lift things, cook, clean, or even take our son, Sawyer, to school. What used to be normal daily life now feels impossible. Brittney has been through countless rounds of imaging, numerous ER visits, appointments at three orthopedic clinics, and two spine procedures already, with likely at least two more still ahead. There is still no clear end in sight, and this injury has left Brittney effectively disabled.

Our imaging costs are already over $3,000, our ER visits are over $3,000, and each procedure is around $2,000, with at least two more likely ahead. Our insurance coverage just reset in September, so we have a brand new deductible we have to meet, which is further increasing the financial burden. Brittney will also need a lengthy course of physical therapy that is expected to cost multiple thousands of dollars. I have been carrying the full weight of caregiving while also working full time, but I have run out of paid time off and will now need to take unpaid time off to care for Brittney and Sawyer, costing us thousands more in lost income that we would normally use for rent, bills, and daily living needs. We do not have nearby relatives to step in, so the strain continues week after week.
