I am a hospice chaplain, grandpa, and blues guitarist trying to help a very dear friend chase her dream. Brandi Krugler, Mrs. Wyoming America, is a shining example of overcoming adversity and living a life of impact. Her law enforcement career ended early due to multiple physical injuries and a mental health battle that nearly ended everything. In the aftermath, she chose to get up and pursue a life of purpose. She worked diligently and obtained her master's degree, and then started a new career as a therapist focused on helping first responders and their families. Her next achievement was launching a nonprofit designed to help those who are unable to access mental health support. S.H.I.F.T. was born (Supporting Heroes, Individuals, Families, and Teams) and is already helping first responders and trauma survivors. That's when this exciting and unexpected chapter began. In the process of working tirelessly for others, she began to realize that her own health had been neglected along the way. She needed a goal and set her sights on competing in the Mrs. Wyoming America pageant. Victory was not her chief objective. Health and happiness were. Months of preparation led to the moment she was absolutely not expecting. Standing on a stage in Casper, WY, her name was called and she won! Mrs. Wyoming America was her new title, and it brought with it an unexpected new challenge. The victory means competing again in the national competition in Las Vegas, NV. She had been able to self-fund a local competition, but the national event is beyond the reach of this committed mother, wife, and therapist. My wife and I have always considered her to be a part of our extended family, and we want to help her get there. More people need to hear her story and be motivated by her courage. More people need to be encouraged to seek the help they need when they need it the most. Mrs. Wyoming America needs to get to Las Vegas!
