On the 25th of January 2026, I lost my dad to his fight with his mental health. My dad was a strong and adventurous man constantly out at sea covering as many nautical miles as he could, to most people he would have seemed like he was as happy as he could be, this shows how you never really know what someone is going through and what battles they are facing. speaking up when things are hard is so important because you never know how supported you really are, this is why breaking the stigma of men’s mental health is something that needs to happen and for people to be able to admit when they are not ok without judgement or worry about what people think. Something I admired about my dad is that even when things were hard he was still living his life the way he wanted by living out his pirate dream spending weeks on end in the open ocean where he was his happiest. Even when the sailing conditions were terrifying he would call me and tell me about all the crazy things that would happen and how the waves and the winds were extreme, but to him that was when it was the most fun. I want to honour my dads memory by raising money all going towards beyond blue and to encourage people to speak up and also to check in on those around you.
Love you dad ⛵️
