Amanda was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer that develops during pregnancy. Shortly after having her miracle baby, Violet, in October, Amanda experienced postpartum complications that required surgery. Following this procedure and the resulting blood tests and biopsies, Amanda was given the life changing news that she has cancer. While she should be adjusting to motherhood and enjoying her miracle baby’s time as a newborn, she is having to focus on fighting cancer.
Amanda’s case of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia is especially rare as she has the aggressive subtype that developed during her full-term, healthy pregnancy (99.9% of the time this cancer results in a miscarriage). In fact, her oncology team have had trouble finding a single case like hers in the US. The rarity of her case has brought many unknowns and obstacles for treatment plans. She finished her first of many rounds of chemo two days before Christmas but will likely be switched to a more intense chemo.
Amanda and her husband, Cody, are facing overwhelming challenges right now. Amanda and Cody teach as lecturers, which puts them both in a precarious financial situation. As Amanda undergoes treatment for this devastating cancer, Amanda and Cody are losing vital income. This sudden loss of income makes it extremely difficult to cover rent, essential bills, groceries, childcare, and mounting medical expenses. We hope this fundraiser will help ease this burden, allowing the family to focus on what truly matters right now: Amanda’s health, comfort, and recovery.
We created this fundraiser to give everyone a simple, direct way to show immediate support. Your donations will help cover lost family income to keep a stable home for Amanda, Cody, and baby Violet, as well as help with initial medical bills. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word.
Thank you for your support for Amanda and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
With love,
Amanda’s family
