Sue needs a lift - a wheelchair lift!

Hi, my name is Chris and I’m raising funds for my wife, Sue, who needs a Joey Lift installed in our vehicle to aid in her independence. As many of you know, the last several years has been tough for Sue health wise …. She’s been bound to a wheelchair since having a partial amputation in 2016 and was eventually approved for a Hoverround by her insurance company , which gave her a new form of freedom! Unfortunately, insurance companies won’t assist in obtaining ramps to leave your house or lifts in vehicles to use the Hoverround to its highest potential! We were able to get a ramp thru a grant we were told about & once again, Sue found more freedom! However, there are no grants or assistant programs to help with lifts for vehicles. That is why I’m creating this request.

For the last several years we have made do with the manual wheelchair by me lifting it in & out of the van, but it has taken a toll on my back. Sue is very mindful of the toll the manual wheelchair places on me & anyone else that assists in pushing her around in it and wishes desperately to be able to move around on her on with her Hoverround - so much so that she utilizes CATS bus for as many of her doctor appointments as possible. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scheduling limitations with CATS. Because she often feels like she’s a burden on others to transport her, she has become more of a homebody and limits any other “outings” in protection of me & everyone else.

Recently, Sue was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and has been put on dialysis. Up till now, she has felt pretty crappy & has not been able to go out and do much, like day trips or shopping -but after just 5 treatments, she is feeling much better & wants her life back. Although medical transportation has been arranged to take her to dialysis treatments, she would love to be able to have a lift & go out and enjoy some fun times without being a burden to anyone and to be more independent. Having a Joey Lift would relieve her of those feelings.

With all that Sue has been thru, and ALL the hardships she has had to face over the last several years, she has always maintained a positive attitude & a kind, gentle spirit to others.
