Our beloved dad and grandpa, lover of life and everything it has to offer, got sick in mid October. If you know Steve, you know this is abnormal and totally out of character for our dad's extremely health-conscious personality, and as one who works educating people and helping them to live healthier lifestyles.
Our dad was falling asleep at family dinners, was hardly walking or could get himself to move, barely eating, and couldn't carry on a conversation. His strange symptoms carried on for several weeks as he missed out on several important life events while trying to figure out what the problem could be; including his own daughter's wedding, his mother-in-law's funeral and Thanksgiving. After suffering major loss of eyesight and getting his eyes checked, the Ophthalmologist immediately recommended seeing an Internal Medicine Doctor. After he performed multiple tests, the Internal Medicine Doctor recommended our dad go to the Emergency Room as he suspected our dad might have Endocarditis. A bacterial infection got into his bloodstream (from a scratch) and went straight to his heart. It infected the inner layer of the heart, severely damaging a major valve. It was determined that a fleck of the infection from the heart broke off and traveled to his eyes which is the cause of his diminished vision. After 6-8 weeks of IV antibiotics to rid his body of the infection, he will face open-heart surgery.
Being self-employed and not being able to work has hurt his family financially, not to mention the fact that he and our mom don't have health insurance. The cost of these expenses is overwhelming. The surgery, replacement valve, hospital costs, and the home health care he is currently receiving until the infection is cleared is approximately $150,000.
His quality of life has suffered due to extreme weight loss, loss of his eyesight that may or may not be repairable, weak body and mind and the list goes on. Our dad has six daughters and for us to see our dad in this condition has been extremely difficult and heartbreaking to say the least. We are hoping to offer our parents some sort of relief financially, after they have sacrificed so much for us and others, especially during this holiday season. We want to see our dad get back to motorcycle riding, hunting, playing sports, and waterskiing the way he has always done in his beautiful life with the least amount of financial stress possible. Any donation is so incredibly appreciated and we are so grateful for all the love, service, and comfort those we know have already offered us.
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any contribution or spreading of the word you can offer! We love you all!
Love, the Farr girls.
