My name is Steven Rogers. I'm a stand-up comedian and the proud owner of one of the most controversial creatures known to man: a hairless cat.
His name is Bennie, and let me just say, GoFundMe doesn't allow me enough space to tell you how wrong I was about hairless cats.
If you're like I was before meeting him, you probably think they're ugly, scary, and basically snakes with legs. But this guy is living proof of how foolish that thinking is. Bennie has become my world just as much as I've become his.
Earlier this year, Bennie started having digestive issues that would even wake him up several times a night and have him groaning in pain. I took him to the vet several times. We changed his diet, checked for allergies, and ruled out parasites, but I could tell something was clearly wrong with my boy.
One of the things about having anxiety that really stinks is that sometimes you're right.
After an ultrasound, the doctors found several masses in Bennie's intestines. The good news is that his blood work and chest imaging came back clear. We're now waiting on multiple biopsies to tell us exactly what we're dealing with. While we don't have every answer yet, the doctors have prepared me for the possibility that we have a difficult fight ahead of us.
The biopsy is only the first step. No matter what the final diagnosis is, I'm preparing for additional medical care, treatment, medications, follow-up appointments, and whatever Bennie needs to give him the best chance possible. I'm asking for help because I want every decision I make from this point forward to be based on what's best for Bennie, not simply on what I can afford.
