The morning of Christmas Eve, Iris’s husband went to work and never came home. On this day of special significance for our families, he was wrongfully pulled over and detained by ICE. Iris, a mother of 3, now has to pay her family’s rent, cover unprecedented legal fees, and keep food on the table while raising her 3 babies, all on a minimum-wage, part-time salary. This horrific event has taken an immense mental toll on both Iris and her children, while their father sits in a detention center many states away.
Currently, Iris’s pressing needs are paying her husband’s lawyer's fees and making rent. The snow has kept Iris from going to work, but the bills keep piling up.
This is when community matters. We, as a community, have the ability to lessen Iris’s financial burden, which is rightfully causing the family extreme bouts of anxiety. In this instance, financial support is solidarity for all the families who are struggling in our neighborhoods right now. So please consider sharing and/or donating to help Iris and her family through this deeply painful and traumatizing moment.
***The Prince George's County Immigrant Rights Collective (PGIRC) mobilizes resources to directly support immigrant families in our county that are impacted by ICE. There is extreme need across our community - PG IRC prioritizes fundraising for families that have children, at least one parent detained or deported by ICE, and that are struggling to make ends meet.***
