March 12th 2024 I went to Vasquez Rocks with my dog for a hike. One of our favorite activities to do together since he was a puppy. Who knew it would turn into one of the worst days of my life and the ending to his. Already 2 hours in our adventure a rattle snake came out of no where. His first response was to protect mommy and attack not knowing the danger to getting bit. We weren’t far from the car at that point so I immediately got him in the car and drove to the nearest Veterinary Clinic which was only about 5 min away. They took him in right away. After some time the Doctor came out reassuring me that my boy was going to be okay. I have signed documents stating the swelling would resolve within 24 hours to 72 hours, To expect his appetite to return within 1-3 days, That his Larynx and Airway weren’t involved so there wouldn’t be any complications with his breathing. He advised me that most dogs recover with no complications. Just when I thought my traumatic experience was over it only got worse when we got home. I rushed him back to a different hospital and by the time we got there his heart had stopped with little to no breathing. The swelling didn’t stop and it engulfed his whole neck and head. They had applied CPR on him in hopes to bring him back, but was unsuccessful. This pain is unreal. I’m having a hard time sleeping, eating, getting out of bed. I have taken this time to mourn my loss which means time off work. I’m reaching out for an act of kindness. I’m reaching out for HELP which is something I rarely ever do. I’m setting up a donation to help with the medical bills, cremation bill, urn fee that also comes with a clay paw print. This was so unexpected that my bank account was NOT ready for with all the other normal bills I have to pay on top of that. ANYTHING helps and would truly be so appreciated!
