Sitara’s CT Scan

Donation protected
Sitara (Sanskrit for morning star) is a little two year old part lionhead bunny who had a rough start to life. She was surrendered to a rescue as a young bunny, and suffered a failed adoption after a year living in a small cage on mostly rat food and high sugar treats. Her nails were an inch and a half long when she arrived- never trimmed but never broken because she was never given time out to hop. Her back leg muscles were too weak to hop over anything.

Since that time Sitara has blossomed. She is a kind, confident, energetic, compassionate, cuddly, playful little girl who loves exploring and is able to hop 2-3 feet in the air with her well-exercised thumpers! She is so deeply loved and brightens the days of sweet bunny Skye, who has had her own brutal $5000+ health challenges over the past year. She’s been an essential part of why Skye continues to thrive despite being a medically fragile bunny.

Decreases appetite brought her to the vet for a “just in case” full physical which led to X-rays and blood work and then a $1200 ultrasound with fine needle biopsies. She has a large 5x5x3 cm mass in her abdomen- determined not to be cancer- which is still not fully understood, but possibly due to trauma or poor diet from her year in her former home of neglect. Biopsy shows inflammation. She is currently on supportive feeding and two different pain meds three times a day to manage discomfort.

Sitara’s vet has recommended she have a CT scan. The hope is to be able to cover a CT scan so that next steps will be clearer. If surgery is needed, it will help surgeons determine their approach and how best to be successful. Unfortunately a CT scan, on top of former ultrasound and X-rays - and likely surgery, is very expensive. CT will be $2,700.

Sitara has never asked for anything but love and cuddles and snac, and so this fundraiser is speaking for her when she needs the help the most. Thank you so much to everyone who is able to donate, no matter how small. Donations will hopefully help this sweet girl have the specialized treatment she needs, a full recovery and an even brighter future (with many more pats and snac) in her third-chance forever home.
