The principal at Kennett Middle School, with whom Sheila worked for many years, said of her that, "She is one of those people who truly lived out her purpose. There is no doubt that Sheila was meant to be a teacher and an educator." Sheila worked for 35 years in the Kennett school district as a speech therapist, special education teacher, and librarian. She established the LAUNCH gifted and talented program in the school district, which she ran from 1987 until 1993 and then again from 2006 until 2011. The name Learners Achieving Under New & Challenging Horizons (LAUNCH) came from her lifelong interest in space exploration. Sheila was a great champion of education and she developed an attachment and dedication to each and every one of her students. Her students have gone on to have successful careers in law, business, medicine, finance, education, higher education, politics, and the list goes on.
Sheila Marchbanks led a very big life. Her sweet, loving, generous, strong, indomitable spirit sent waves through the entire community in which she lived. The world truly is a better place for her having been here.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a scholarship fund to be established in Sheila's name within the Kennett school district.
