She Rose Project

Donation protected

The She Rose Project began in 2018 and is a collection of portraits of women portrayed as superheros. Each superhero is customized and inspired by the participant's own story of overcoming an obstacle in their life.

2017 and 2018 brought a lot of new attention to sexual misconduct in America. We've started to have more conversations about the abuse of power and conversations about how/if we should hold people responsible for their actions. Throughout it all, I have seen women in particular gathering the courage to speak up about sexual abuse and actually having their voices heard which hasn’t happened as much in the past.

This project was created not only to empower survivors, but to build up and celebrate the personal victories women have accomplished in the face of diversity or through hard circumstances.

Whether it's living through a natural disaster, vanquishing a disease, learning to love ourselves again, or standing up for what is right, we all have a story of turning struggle into strength, despair into power. We must all acknowledge the heroes in ourselves and in the people all around us.

20 women have participated so far but I would love to grow this project. I'm looking to create a gallery showing of the finished portraits, each paired with a written version of each women's story. Beyond that I would like to lead empowerment workshops in the Bay Area and throughout the country, continuously growing this body of work.

I'm looking to raise funds for the gallery printing and framing. The show will be up and open to the public in March in the Bay Area but would be built to travel.

I would be so grateful for any financial support for this project. Working on She Rose, I have met so many inspiring women and know that this can make a difference. Your support would be so phenomenal.

Women can sometimes be stereotyped as weak, but the truth is the complete opposite. Women are some of the strongest individuals that I know. It's time to show them as they truly are, superheros.
