Many of you have reached out asking how you can help following the devastating floods in Nepal. Thank you for your concern and your willingness to support.

I am truly overwhelmed by all your support and, honestly, did not expect to receive so many generous donations. Thank you so much! I initially said that I would personally cover all GoFundMe transaction fees, as well as the fees for the international transfers. However, as a small one-woman business, my own funds are limited at the moment. I will therefore be able to cover the transaction fees for donations of up to a total of €10,000, which amounts to approximately €500 in fees. Beyond that point, any additional transaction fees will need to be covered by the donations themselves. I hope you understand, and I want to thank you once again for your incredible generosity and support.

WHO I AM

My name is Johanna Welsch, I am originally from and currently living in Munich, Germany. And I am the founder of Shanti Treks, a trekking company offering small-group hiking experiences in the European Alps and Nepal. I am an International Mountain Leader and have been travelling to and working in Nepal for many years.

WHY I RAISE MONEY

Through my work in Nepal, I have built long-standing personal and professional relationships with my local partners and team.

I work closely with Sajana Bhadel, co-founder of Girls Empowered by Travel Nepal (GET Nepal). Sajana is a friend and trusted business partner, and we work together on my trekking programmes in Nepal.

GET Nepal is a local Nepali non-profit organisation. Sajana and the GET Nepal team are currently on the ground coordinating flood-relief activities and providing assistance to communities affected by the floods.

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE SPENT

100% of the donations received through this fundraiser will be transferred to GET Nepal in Kathmandu to support their flood-relief activities. I will personally cover any GoFundMe transaction fees and international bank-transfer costs associated with transferring the funds to Nepal.

GET Nepal will use the donations to purchase and distribute urgently needed supplies to communities in regions affected by the floods. Depending on the immediate needs identified by the team on the ground, funds will be used for essential relief items such as food, clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitary supplies, clothing and other basic necessities, as well as the transportation and distribution of these supplies to affected communities.

The local team will determine where assistance is most urgently needed and coordinate the purchase and distribution of supplies directly in Nepal.
