Save Breakfast & Nub from Slaughter
Donation protected
During my time working at this farm, I fell in love with a pig named Breakfast. She loves playing with sticks, sleeping in the mud, belly rubs and chasing me around the pen! She responds to her name and runs to me whenever I show up. Whenever I scratch her back or sweet talk her, she wags her tail and makes quiet oinking noises. Destined for slaughter, Breakfast and her best friend, Nubby, only have a month to live!
Good news-- I have found a farm for them to live on and I could be their new mom for the rest of their years!!
Bad news-- I don't have enough money to save them. The farm wants me to buy them for the same price as if they were slaughtered, called "hanging weight." This is $7 per pound.
Cost of 2 pigs: $1,600
Food: $200 (to start)
Harnesses & Leashes: $75
Fence & shelter maintenance: $350
Food & water trough: $75
Vet visit: ~$200
Please help me save these beautiful animals!
Here are some cool facts about pigs to grease your gears:
-Pigs are the smartest of domestic animals, even smarter than dogs!
-They can run a 7 minute mile!
-Mommy pigs sing to their young while they are nursing
-Pigs communicate with each other using up to 20 different vocalizations
-When pigs sleep, they like to snuggle and sleep nose-to-nose with their friends. They also dream, just like humans!
-Pigs can scream up to 130 decibels, which is louder than a jet engine at 120 decibels!
-The physiology of pigs is very similar to humans- they have the same organs and are omnivores
-Pigs can cry real tears when upset and are very sensitive
-You can house train a pig faster than you can house train a dog
-Pigs are slaughtered for meat when they are only 6 months old, when the average lifespan of a pig is 12 years!
