With heavy hearts, and in honour of Joan’s final wishes, we are raising funds to help preserve the Aldergrove Veterans and Senior Society — a safe space that gave her purpose, friendships, and community for 28 years. The family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support the Society she loved.

This alcohol-free veterans and seniors society receives little government funding but provides affordable meals, card games, and daily activities — offering seniors and veterans a place for community, connection, and routine.

Although AVASS owns its building, it urgently needs a new roof (approximately $35,000) to renew its insurance. Without it, the centre risks closure — impacting seniors who depend on this space and often have no other accessible options.

Joan volunteered here for 28 years. It kept her busy, happy, and healthy. In honour of her wishes, the estate of Joan will be donating 10% of the needed amount toward the roof replacement.
