Hey, all! My name's Aidan — I'm a writer, games journalist, and photographer. For the past several years, I've been sharing my CRT photos with y'all on Bluesky and elsewhere, and they've always been shared widely and received a lot of love.
However, my PVM was in slow decline—with several linearity and power supply issues that were getting worse—and without repairs, I wouldn't be able to keep taking and sharing my photos. While I enjoy taking photos of my other CRTs, my PVM has always been, far and away, the most popular among fans.
Unfortunately, the first tech I hired to do a recap and address the issues left it in worse shape than he'd received it (the PVM wouldn't even turn on after I got it back). Fortunately, it's in good hands now... but repairs are going to be pricey.
So, I'm asking for your help! If you've ever enjoyed my CRT photos on Bluesky or other sites, or if you're just a fan of my work as a writer or co-host of the FunFactor Podcast, please consider pitching in a few bucks to help with the repair costs.
If you donate, let me know in a comment or message which game you'd like to see shared as a photo, and I'll do my best to cover as many as possible when my PVM is back to life!
Note: If you already donated via PayPal last week , I've adjusted the GFM goal to account for the donations already received. So, thank you!
How funds will be used for repairs:
- $0 - The initial repair guy replaced capacitors, but, in the process, did something else that stopped the PVM from turning on. This was how it was returned to me.
- $40 - I was able to find someone who could assess the new problem, which needed to be resolved before the original problems could be addressed. The assessment fee was a flat free.
- $400 - After assessment and discovering the source of the power issue (a trace on the microcontroller was broken by the original repair guy), I've been given a ballpark quote of $400 for repairs.
- $200 - In addition to repairing the existing issues, more work might be needed to future proof or protect the PVM into the future. This has been quoted at two hours or work plus component costs
- $20 - The repair tech working on the PVM lives 90 minutes away, and pick up will likely include a half day round-trip drive.
- Any additional funds above the cost of repairs will go towards improving my ability to share retro gaming content via photography, video, podcasting, or Twitch streaming.
