Raising Glasses and Funds: A Gathering for Recovery and Road Safety
On the morning of Memorial Day 2025, a group of cyclists riding safely in the bike lane on High Street in Newburyport was struck by a turning vehicle. One rider sustained severe head trauma and was airlifted to MGH. He spent weeks in recovery at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital—and thanks to their extraordinary care, he is now home and beginning his long and uncertain journey of recovery.
This fundraiser is our way of showing support, raising awareness, and giving back.
Join us at Notch Brewery in Salem, MA —a favorite spot of our friend for regular post-run hangouts with the Meters for Liters crew—for an evening of community and purpose on July 23rd 2025 from 6pm-8pm.
Why We’re Gathering
This event is about more than good beer and good company. It’s about:
Raising awareness for road safety in Essex County, where:
- Far too many preventable crashes have harmed cyclists and pedestrians.
- Safer streets and accountability to keep unqualified drivers off the roads are long overdue.
Raising funds to support:
- The family affected by this serious bicycle crash
- Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, in gratitude for the role they played in our friend’s recovery
Whether you’re a cyclist, runner, or someone who simply believes in safer roads and stronger communities, we hope you’ll join us, make a donation, and help spread the word.
