On Monday 3/7/22, my nephew Riley unexpectedly stopped breathing and emergency services were immediately called. A few minutes later, his heart stopped completely. Fortunately, the paramedics were able to bring him back but then he remained in a medically induced coma so the doctors could find out what caused it, how much damage was done from the lack of oxygen, and what the future holds for him.

 

He was transferred to University of Michigan on Friday 3/10/22 where he could finally be with his regular team of doctors that specialize in pediatrics and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. They attempted to wake him from the medically induced coma but were unsuccessful. After running some more tests, the team, with tears in their eyes, informed his mother Brandi that he no longer had any brain activity and she would need to make the devastating decision every parent hopes they never have to make.

Riley passed away peacefully at 8:41 PM on Saturday, March 12th. Surrounded by loved ones.

 

Riley leaves behind a twin brother, Shay, who he shares the horrendous disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He is also survived by his younger brother, Paxton. Riley impacted the lives of countless others whom he touched and inspired with his strength, humor and kindness. His mother Brandi was forced to stop working years ago due to the the brothers needing around the clock care. With the passing of Riley, the cost of his burial, tombstone, and related expenses have put even more financial strain on her. She also plans to reserve a burial plot next to his for whenever Shay's time comes, they can be next to each other. We will be forever grateful if you would be able to assist her to help ease the incredible burden that we all pray we never have to carry.
