Reconnect: Ahousat youth surf day

Donation protected
Sunday July 30th 2017 marathon swimmer, Jill Yoneda will embark upon a feat only accomplished by seven people before her: to swim across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Port Angeles to Victoria

In partnership with Uclulet based Wya Point Surf Shop , Jill is hoping to use her experience to create an opportunity for the youth of Ahousat - a remote First Nations community - to connect to the Ocean she holds so close to her heart.

The funds raised will go to support a day of surfing for 20 Ahousat youth. Their day will be
- boat transportation from Ahousat to Pacific Rim National Park
- getting set up with their surf gear (wetsuit + surfboard)
- surf lesson with Wya Point surf instructors

Most importantly the youth will gain a sense of self, connect with an element central to their traditional and modern culture and feel a tremendous sense of joy and exhilleration.

Surfing has a way of infusing positivity, spirituality and humility into a persons soul. These youth will not just learn to surf - they will learn what it is to push themselves, to accomplish goals, to overcome challenges and to support one another through shared experiences.
