Rebuild Hudson River Athletics
We are disheartened to share that Tropical Storm Ida has wreaked extreme havoc on our beloved home away from home, our gym, Hudson River Athletics in Hoboken, NJ. Though we were able to salvage some of our equipment due to the fast acting nature of our coaches and members, the quick damage done by the sewage filled flood waters was no match for us.
While there is not much that can get our community down, this is certainly a set back that no one had anticipated. Every morning when our gym doors open to our members, is a day that we all live better lives because of it. This is a place where we can regain our mental health and wellness, encourage each other through tough times, dedicate numerous workouts to our fallen service men and women, collect toys for children during holiday time, but most of all, gather with our fit family.
We are also proud to have a strong and committed community that has already given us an outpouring of support, and we are incredibly grateful for that. So many members have been by the gym in the 12 hours since the storm has subsided to clean, mop, laugh, and try to make the best of the situation, but we need more help. We want to thank you in advance for your support and contributions.
Any money raised will go directly to cleaning the turf and mats to ensure that they are sanitary, replacing rusted and potentially moldy equipment (sandbags are ~ 75-95 each), replacing mechanical equipment (example: Concept 2 Rowers are $900.00 each), replacing the sheet rock on the walls, and resurfacing the floor.
We are confident that we will be back up and running in no time, with whatever we have on hand and we can put together. As one of the newer members of the gym, I cant share enough how much this place means to me.
All of our love and fist pumps,
The RIV Family
