Hey everyone! My name is Walt O'Berry, and I'm a real estate agent with The Walt O'Berry Real Estate Team at Real Brokerage here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. I always look forward to giving back to the community in November! This year, something fell into my lap.
Late October, I called Jerry Wilson, who helps out with my client appreciation event I do every November. Jerry is a local business owner here in Carteret County and a good friend of mine. He sounded sad, and I asked him what was wrong. He told me that his wife's family in Jamaica took a direct hit from Hurricane Melissa. They live in St. Elizabeth, and their roof and trusses were damaged during the storm. The structure itself is fine because it is built with cement blocks and rebar, but the roof and trusses need to be replaced.
The cost of a new roof is $10,000. They have $5,000 raised so far. I'd like to raise the other $5,000 by November 24th! The reason the roof is so expensive is because they have to import all the materials to Jamaica - lumber, metal roofing materials, and hardware all need to be brought in, which significantly increases the cost.
How the funds will be spent:
Lumber for new roof trusses
Metal roofing materials
Hardware and fasteners
Import/shipping costs for materials
Local labor for installation
For anyone that donates, I will keep you updated on the progress of the new roof. Jerry will send us pictures! :)
