Good day! This is Eta-Starr Edwardsen. I am Orion’s older sister. I am raising funds on his behalf while he is hospitalized.
Our dear brother, Orion Edwardsen, underwent an emergent heart surgery on New Year’s Eve. During the routine surgery the heart surgeon discovered his heart endured more damage than anticipated. The surgeon conducted the extensive repairs due to his young age, and normally healthy condition. Orion was stabilized from the surgery for transport to Seattle, WA for his recovery.
Upon arrival at his receiving hospital it was determined his heart repairs were not successful.
As of January 2, 2026, Orion is now a candidate for a heart transplant. This unexpected and devastating event has left him facing a long challenging road ahead.
What was hoped to be a short routine repair surgery has been escalated to a full heart transplant. We will not know the extent of the damages till all his work ups and tests are complete. Once this step is complete these results will identify a heart that is suitable for transplant. The wait for the transplant depends upon how fast the transplant list moves. This initial wait could be 3 months or more before his transplant surgery is conducted.
All who know Orion, know he is a very strong, hard working, Dad who would not request financial support on his own.
The journey to recovery from a heart transplant is not only physically demanding but also emotionally and financially taxing. While he is in Seattle, WA at UW Medical Center Montlake, awaiting heart transplant, he is unable to work. He is doing remarkable, and is probing to be a fighter, but will need to continue hospitalization for an unforeseen period of time. When he’s stronger, he’ll return home to Anchorage but we are only in the beginning stages of his prognosis and there more steps he needs to endure.
This GoFundMe was created by family to help support Orion so he can focus all his energy on a full recovery without the added stress of mounting bills and travel expenses for his family to be by his side during this long healing journey. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in Orion’s life and bring hope to his journey toward healing.
Orion is in stable condition, but could use all the love, thoughts and prayers. Orion is a generous and humble friend who has always held family & friends up in times of need, now, it's our turn to rally for him!
Your generosity and support will not only help Orion through recovery, but will also serve as a reminder of the love and kindness that surround him during this time.
Together, we can make a difference and show him that he is not alone in this repair and recovery.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion, generosity, and prayers.
