Rally for Kerri's Healing and Care

My family has been going through a difficult time over the last weeks. My incredible, kind, caring, funny, and strong 49-year-old sister-in-law, Kerri, suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. In the week following, she had two massive strokes, one on each side of her brain. They tried many interventions with little success to avoid or minimize damage. She suffered major brain swelling, and they needed to perform a craniectomy.

She was in the Neuro ICU for over 4 weeks and was on a ventilator for 22 days. 2 weeks ago, a trach and peg tube were placed. And we began to move from critical care to medical care. 

Kerri is not brain dead, but she is brain damaged. She is not awake, and is completely dependent on 24 nursing hour care. After 5 weeks we had her first sign of intentional movement! She can raise her eyebrows on command - letting us know she hears us!!

And this week she began to open her eyes.

These miraculous signs let us know she’s in there, trying with all her might and God’s grace to let us know she hears us.

She and my brother Michael have three teenagers, who are all trying to navigate through Kerri’s complex situation while beginning to plan for caring for her and the road ahead.

Kerri, for those of us who know and love her, is one of a kind. She is fiercely loyal, funny, hardworking, animal-loving, caring, and has strong faith in God. Kerri has always been there for her kids, her family, and her friends. Now she and her family need help.
