Rose’s Veterinary Expenses

Last Friday, Rose started acting strange and after a couple of hours her eye became extremely swollen. She was misdiagnosed by the first emergency vet that saw her and we were told to go home and just give her allergy meds. The next morning her eye was significantly worse so we went back to the ER vet and I told them there was no possible way this was allergies and to please do whatever they could to help her, (the first visit was $300 and the following one less than 24 hours later was over $400) they said she could have an infection in numerous places and they gave her some injections and me a list of medications to give her multiple times a day in hopes that one of them would help with her pain and swelling until we could get into our regular vet during the week. While waiting for our appointment because Covid has every ER vet, regular vet, and specialist booked out for weeks, her eye socket ruptured and she had to have emergency surgery that night (which the deposit alone was $2,000)  to try and clean out the infection and to try and explore what was causing this. The following day we found out basically nothing as to why this all was happening and were given no instruction as to what to do next but to try and find some other clinic who could maybe help and she was handed back over to me with a very bloody eye and no where else to go. Today I was able to convince an eye specialist to see us (which just for the visit was another $400) and we found out she has now lost vision in that eye and is most likely going to have to have it removed which will cost another $2,400. Before the removal, she has to go to another clinic to have a MRI done (which was quoted to me to be around $6000) to make sure the infection isn’t spreading and to see what steps have to be taken after the removal in order to make she she is able to heal as quickly as possible. This past year has drained my savings and my retirement account, if I’m to be completely honest, since the majority of my income comes from commission, I have definitely felt the impact Covid has had on all of us. I’m not one to ever ask for help especially when it comes to finances but there is no possible way I can do this by myself and I would do anything and everything to save my dog as most of us would. Thank you all so much for your outpour of love and support it has made this never ending nightmare of a week a little bit easier.
