Hi everyone! Thank you so much for coming to our fundraising page!
My name is Amanda Harding and I own and operate 2 small yoga studios/community centers in Brooklyn, NY. For many years, we have made steps toward building a place where the true essence of yoga, a sense of action and support and shared humanity, is at the heart of what we do.
Especially now, if those who can, would step out and do something, anything to elevate the lives of those we share our communities with, imagine how every community in the city/state/country would be impacted. There is really nothing too small. Sometimes the littlest things make the most difference and it gives us the permission to just begin.
So, Prema Hummingbirds was born: a 501c3 pending non-profit arm of Prema Yoga Brooklyn where we will, like hummingbirds do, attempt to lean in softly but clearly wherever there is a need.
Our first project is Prema Hummingbirds for Food Justice. Through this initiative, we are seeking to meet an initial goal of providing deliveries of groceries to 50 families/individuals on a weekly basis. These recipients are residents of the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn who are currently facing food insecurity, neighbors of the Fulton Street location of our yoga studios. Our program will seek to provide good-quality groceries to those demonstrating need. Every week, we will source $15 worth of groceries for each of our 50 recipients, bringing the total weekly cost of the project to $750.
Our first fundraising goal is to raise $18,000 to fund the Prema Hummingbirds for Food Justice program for 6 months, but with just $1500 ($15 per box/$750 per week), we can supply two weeks worth of groceries to get the program up and running!
Our Fulton studio, located on the border of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy, will be the hub where we will package the grocery deliveries. We will also put out a call for non-perishable donations, reusable bags, and volunteers so that we can reduce the cost we are outlying per delivery and get more people involved! It is at the heart of our program to foster connection and trust with each and every person receiving the donations.
Please spread the word, and if you can give anything, we accept it humbly and will update here and on our website with how the project is going in all its various stages. Transparency is our utmost priority.
With much gratitude, we thank you...
