Jim Akman has been a part of my family for decades. He studied Ballet and performed Musical Theatre with my wife in NYC and LA; he performed with Gene Kelly, choreographed and staged stunts and fighting, wrote many books; wrote , directed, and starred in movies of his own, became a schooled sommelier... his accomplishments are endless, yet he found time to watch my house in LA during my summers east; drove my girls to and from school as, of course, Uncle Jim... Took me to the airport literally hundreds of times... and even found more time to just be funny, witty, smart, and social...Jim is the brother I never had...
He has recently been affected with lack of co-ordination and equilibrium, stagmosis (eye jigging) and even his speech affected a bit... to the point of not being able to work, drive, or even walk any distance...Today I took him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles for invasive brain surgery; a biopsy of SOMETHING that 9 MRIs, 2 MRAs, 2 CAT scans, 4 Spinal Taps, blood tests, etc. could not define or diagnose... hence the biopsy today.
They are now, as I write, closing him up and I will get a report soon.
Jim has needs at this very moment. In no particular order, he needs prayers, positive thoughts and vibrations, love, hope... and necessities.
I have built this site to let friends know of the situation, as with no work and rocketing medical bills something has to be done. I hope as friends and loved ones you can find it in your hearts to help our buddy Jim. If you can give anything there is no donation too small...
