Power East Freo Kindy Kids with Solar!!
Donation protected
This is Walt, and he’s very excited about going to kindy next year!! I’m Leigh (Walt’s Dad), and I’m passionate about the future of our kids and addressing climate change. I would love to see our kindy powered by renewables!
The East Fremantle CARG* aims to raise $3,500 for a 6.6kW rooftop solar system at the East Fremantle Primary School Kindergarten. The Town of East Fremantle (building owner) will match this amount and contribute to half the cost of the system.
Financial analysis of the kindy’s electricity usage indicates that a 6.6kW solar system will save the school approximately $1,500 annually!! Given nearly all electricity usage at the kindy is during the day, installing rooftop solar is a no-brainer. Rooftop solar makes financial and environmental sense!
What will we do with our savings?
We have a commitment with the school to use power bill savings to increase sustainability education. Meanwhile, the project provides an excellent opportunity for the Year 6 Sustainability Ministry to undertake a pre- and post-installation energy assessment. What a great, practical way for kids to learn!!
How will funding be used?
We will be installing a 6.6kW, fully optimised rooftop solar system. A fully optimised system is slightly more expensive, however it will allow us to enjoy our shady trees whilst maximising solar power generation.
Help us contribute to meaningful action for our future generations by forgoing a few cups of coffee (or more!!) and donating to our cause. Wouldn't it be great if the new solar system was in place by the George Street festival for us all to admire and be proud of!
*Climate Action Reference Group is a group of local East Fremantle residents selected to represent the community in the development of the Town of East Fremantle Climate Emergency Strategy and Climate Emergency Action Plan (currently underway).
