Help Alyce Nelligan get her stolen car home!
Donation protected
I am helping Alyce Nelligan and her family (with their consent) by running this GoFundMe. Alyce was the victim of a shocking car theft two weeks ago, when her car (with custom-made wheelchair inside!) was stolen in Cambooya, near Toowoomba. You can read the media coverage below.
Alyce is an amazing disabled advocate who is a wheelchair user. Due to her disabilities, she can only move around in her custom-made wheelchair. She can only leave the house if driven in her modified car that can carry her wheelchair.
Luckily, after huge news media and social media support, the police found Alyce’s car AND the wheelchair, which was dumped elsewhere. The wheelchair is safe and back and WORKS! But the car is a different story.
Alyce’s car will not start, and so cannot be driven to her home. She has to pay towing fees and cleaning fees before she can even check whether her car can be fixed. She also has to pay the original tow fees incurred by the police. She has been housebound since the theft, because without the car, she cannot leave the house.
Right now, Alyce and her family need your URGENT financial help so she can get her car back and assessed.
If you can spare any funds at all, please donate towards these initial upfront costs which we estimate will be up to $2,000!
INITIAL COSTS ESTIMATE = $2,000, for:
- Initial tow from Police yard to the tow yard
- Tow from Wilson’s Towing to Cambooya
- Checks need to be done on the vehicle including drug testing and sharps sweep
- Petrol costs for travel to the city
- Professional cleaning fees as the car is incredibly dirty and smelly
- Mechanical repairs costs = $UNKNOWN
I will keep you updated as to further financial help needed, as there is likely to be more to come. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
NB: I will keep you updated on here as soon as we know actual costs, and any excess donated Alyce commits to paying forward to other people in need in the Toowoomba area.
MEDIA COVERAGE ON THE THEFT AND RECOVERY
The original post was shared on crime pages all over South East Queensland and even on Tik Tok. Alyce was interviewed twice by 4BC Radio Brisbane during drive time with Neil Breen. The community response was incredible. Thank you so much to everyone who shared the story - it is thanks to you that the car and wheelchair have been found.

Column about the theft by Greg Johnson- “My column in today's The Chronicle is called "Perpetrators lower than a snake's belly" and talks about out-of-control crime in our city, and area. My mate Alyce Nelligan lives with a rare neuromuscular disease called “central core myopathy” which means, since birth, she’s carried a disorder which affects skeletal muscles - she’s mostly confined to her wheelchair.
And this week some mongrel, or mongrels, stole her car and the wheelchair which is valued at $10,000. God bless our police, they've found the car and I am waiting to hear about the wheelchair.”

“A Cambooya woman has been left housebound, after her car and custom-made wheelchair were stolen.
She's asking for help to track them down, and has already received tips from drivers who claim they've seen the BMW in Brisbane.”
