Hello, my name is Jaylin Coleman, I’m a Freshman in college, a chemistry major, and I’m here to ask for support with my schooling. 

I’m currently enrolled at Norfolk State University. I honestly am still a bit nervous about asking for help since this is the first time I’ve done this but I really need it. My total bill for school is 13k but if I lower it down to 10k I can make my monthly payments off of the wage I get from work. Now I know some of you may be think “Well why didn’t you apply for more scholarships?” And the truth to that is, I didn’t think I’d be at this school. My original decision was to go to a school in the Midwest and they offered me half of my tuition covered. That’s when I made the biggest mistake of my life, I made an early thought that this was going to be the school and I applied to only institutional scholarships, in an effort to get the most money I could. However, I then went on a tour of Norfolk State and immediately fell in love with the campus and environment. I realized that this was the school for me and I that going to the school in the Midwest would be the worst decision I could make for my future and happiness. The unfortunate part about this was now “Where am I going to get money for tuition from?” I don’t come from a well off family and I worked all through high school and even picked up a second job my junior year to help provide for myself and take the pressure off my grandmother. In between working and going to school and studying for my final exams I applied to as many scholarships as I could. However, for most I was too late, and for others my applications were rejected. I really love this school and I don’t want to have to give up my dream of being a researcher. My family was so excited to see me off to college, especially since none of my parents or grandparents ever went. If I could even get at least $1,000 that would enough. I’m sorry to be going on and rambling so I’ll cut it off now. Please donate whatever it is that you can, and I will be extremely grateful (and hopefully when I become valedictorian I can put you all in my speech).
